Durham CT Dump Hours: Everything You Need to Know
If you’re a resident of Durham, CT, or the surrounding area, you may be wondering about the hours of operation for the local dump. The Durham Transfer Station is located on Cherry Hill Road and is open to residents of Durham and Middlefield.
Hours of Operation
- Monday: 8:00am-7:45pm
- Thursday: 8:00am-7:45pm
- Saturday: 8:00am-3:00pm
The Transfer Station is closed on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Fees
There are no fees for regular household garbage, paper, cardboard, office paper, bottles, and cans (including plastics #1-#7). However, there are fees for certain items, such as:
- Demolition Materials: $0.09 per pound
- Painted Wood: $0.07 per pound
- Scrap Lumber: $0.07 per pound
- Appliances With Freon: $10.00 each
- Tires (Standard Only): $6.00 each
- Padded Furniture: $10.00 each
- Mattress/Box spring: No charge
- Toilet: $5.00 each
- Sinks: $3.00 each
What Can I Bring?
In addition to regular household garbage, you can also bring the following items to the Transfer Station:
- Electronics (for recycling)
- Brush (up to 4″ in diameter and not longer than 8′ in length)
- Leaves (must be emptied from bags in designated area)
- Scrap metal (must be drained of any oil or gasoline)
What Can’t I Bring?
The following items are not allowed at the Transfer Station:
- Hazardous wastes (such as lead-based paint, asbestos, or pesticides)
- Wood larger than 4″ in diameter
- Clean fill (rocks, concrete, dirt, etc.)
Other Information
- To purchase an annual Transfer Station Permit, you must provide proof of residency in Durham or Middlefield and a valid vehicle registration.
- Permits expire on July 1st of each year.
- The Transfer Station may be closed due to inclement weather. Check the website or call ahead for more information.
