Portage County Solid Waste manages the Transfer Facility in Plover, Wisconsin, providing waste disposal and recycling services to county residents. Here’s a comprehensive guide to their hours, fees, and disposal guidelines to help you plan your waste disposal trips effectively.

Hours of Operation

The Transfer Facility is open to the public during the following hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Saturday (December – February): 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM (first Saturday of each month)
  • Saturday (March – April): 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Saturday (May – August): 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM
  • Saturday (September – November): 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM

The facility is closed on major holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Disposal Guidelines

  • Unsecured Loads: Loads must be secured with tarps, ropes, winch straps, netting, or chains to prevent items from becoming loose or detached during transport. Unsecured loads may be refused or subject to an additional $10 surcharge.
  • Household Hazardous Waste: Residents can dispose of household hazardous waste, such as pesticides, herbicides, cleaners, paints, chemicals, gas, and aerosols, by appointment only. Call (715) 346-1931 to schedule an appointment. Fees apply.
  • Document Shredding: Secure document shredding is available at the Transfer Facility. A limit of three bank-sized boxes may be brought at a time, with a $5 per box fee.
  • Sharps Disposal: Used needles, lancets, and other sharps must be disposed of separately from regular trash or recyclables. Bring sharps to one of the following locations:
    • Metro Market Pharmacies in Stevens Point & Plover
    • Hometown Pharmacies in Stevens Point & Plover
    • Portage County Solid Waste MRF in Plover
  • Medication Disposal: Properly dispose of unwanted medication at the Plover or Stevens Point Police Stations or the Portage County Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours. Place medication in a sealed plastic bag. Never flush medication down the drain.
