Essex Transfer Station Hours of Operation

The Essex Transfer Station is open to residents on the following days and times:

Transfer Station Regulations

To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Transfer Station, residents must adhere to the following regulations:

• Proof of Residency: Only bona fide residents of Essex are eligible for Transfer Station stickers. Proof of residency, such as a utility bill, may be required.
• Sticker Requirement: All vehicles must display a valid Transfer Station sticker to access the facility. Stickers can be purchased at the DPW Office for $180.00 each, or $90.00 for seniors 65 years or older.
• Acceptable Waste: Household trash, recyclables, and certain bulk items (with a special permit) are accepted at the Transfer Station.
• Prohibited Items: The following items are not accepted at the Transfer Station:
  • Brush, tree limbs, stumps, demolition materials, building materials
  • Motor vehicles, parts of vehicles, fuel tanks
  • Tires, batteries, motor oil
  • Pesticides, herbicides, asbestos, hazardous waste, gas, medical waste, paint, explosives
• Recycling: Recyclable items must be disposed of in designated areas under the direction of Transfer Station personnel.
• Trespassing: Entry into the Transfer Station area outside of normal business hours is prohibited. Scavenging or picking through disposed items is not permitted.
