Landfill Hours

The Rockingham County / Harrisonburg Landfill is open Monday through Saturday, 7:00 am – 4:30 pm.

• All commercial haulers needing to dispose of waste at the Landfill will need to arrive before 4:15 pm
• The Landfill is closed or has reduced operating hours on all major holidays and the day before Thanksgiving.

Container Site Hours

Container sites are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, and do not open until 11:00 am Sundays. All sites are closed on Wednesdays and on major holidays.

• Cardboard, chipboard
• Ferrous metals
• Glass food and beverage containers
• Household batteries (AA, AAA, 9V, etc.)
• Newspaper, magazines, telephone books, greeting cards
• Plastic (all plastic must be marked with a #1, #2, or #5 only  on base)
• Plastic Bags (i.e., Wal-Mart and Food Lion bags)
• Steel and bi-metal cans
• White goods, dryers, washing machines, stoves, freezers, and refrigerators
• Used anti-freeze
• Used motor oil
• TV’s – excluding console style

Items Not Accepted

The following items are not accepted at the landfill or container sites:

• Railroad Ties
• Balist with PCB’s (hazardous waste day only)
• Lead Acid Batteries
• Chemicals of any kind (hazardous waste day only)
• Cleaners of any kind (hazardous waste day only)
• Cooking Oil (hazardous waste day only)
• Fertilizers
• Flourescent Bulbs (hazardous waste day only)
• Fuels of any kind
• Medical Waste (no syringes) (hazardous waste day only)
• No paint unless it is completely dried up; oil base
