Landfill Hours
The Newton County Landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM. The landfill is closed on Sundays and most major holidays.
Convenience Center Hours
The Newton County Convenience Centers are open Tuesday through Friday from Noon to 7 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 7 PM. The convenience centers are closed on Sundays, Mondays, and most major holidays.
Fees
There is a $30 minimum charge per vehicle, per visit, at the landfill. This fee covers the first 1,080 pounds of waste. For loads over 1,080 pounds, there is a $56 per ton tipping fee.
There is no charge to use the convenience centers. However, residents must purchase a hang tag in order to access the centers. Hang tags are available for purchase at the Newton County Historic Courthouse. The cost of a hang tag is $85.
Acceptable Items
The landfill and convenience centers accept a variety of household waste items, including:
- Trash
- Furniture
- Appliances
- Cardboard
- Metal
- Yard trimmings
- Construction and remodeling materials
Unacceptable Items
The landfill and convenience centers do not accept the following items:
- Used motor oil
- Used transmission fluid
- Coolant
- Spent engine cleaner
- Used cooking oil
- Batteries
- Hazardous chemicals
- Propane and helium tanks
Special Days
The Newton County Landfill hosts special days for the disposal of household electronics and paint on the first Saturday of each month from 8 AM to noon. There is a limit of 10 gallons of paint per household per month.
