Accepted Materials

Free Materials
The following materials are accepted free of charge:
- Bulky white polystyrene (Styrofoam)
- Electronic waste (e.g., computers, laptops, TVs)
- Household hazardous waste (up to 50 liters or 25 cans per vehicle)
- Plastic signs (coroplast/film)
- Tires (up to 10 tires per vehicle)
Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste (HHW) should never be disposed of in your regular garbage. Instead, bring it to a waste management facility for free disposal. When dropping off HHW, please follow these guidelines:
- Never mix substances.
- Keep materials in their original containers or in well-marked containers.
- All containers should be securely sealed.
- Securely pack materials in your vehicle to prevent spills.
Fees
Loads containing only free materials are free. Mixed loads containing both free and chargeable items are subject to payment for the entire weight of the mixed loads. Fees are as follows:
- $5 flat rate for loads up to 40 kilograms (88 pounds).
- $1 for every eight kilograms (17.6 pounds) greater than 40 kilograms (88 pounds).
- $125 per 1,000 kilograms.
Fill Material
Fill material (such as soil, dirt, brick, gravel, rubble, sand, cement, and concrete) is charged at $250 per 1,000 kilograms.
Payment Options
Payment options include VISA, MasterCard credit/prepaid cards, or debit. No cash, cheques, or accounts are accepted.
Operating Procedures
- Your vehicle will cross weigh scales both entering and exiting. Please obey all traffic signals and signs.
- When you enter, tell the scale house staff the type of materials you have to dispose of. Staff will direct you to the correct drop-off locations.
- At the exit scale, staff will inform you of the cost.
Material Limits per Day
- 50 liters or 25 cans of household hazardous waste per vehicle
- 40 fluorescent light bulbs and tubes per vehicle
- 10 tires per vehicle
Additional Information
- Boats and other watercraft must have all fluids (gas, oil, coolant, etc.), flares, fuel, and oil filters removed before disposal.
- Residents dropping off a boat or other watercraft must ensure all fluids (gas, oil, coolant, etc.), flares, fuel, and oil filters are removed. Remove the fuel tank from the boat whenever possible. If you cannot provide physical evidence there are no hazardous fluids on the boat, the boat will not be accepted. Removing these items protects the safety of staff and prevents environmental contamination.
