The Athens-Clarke County Landfill is located at 5700 Lexington Rd., Winterville, GA 30683. It is open Monday – Friday from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM and Saturday from 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM.

Garbage Fees
- Commercial: $55 per ton (1 ton = 2,000 pounds) with a $20 minimum
- Residential: $55 per ton
- $3.00 per bag for up to six bags with our punch card. Punch cards, 6 bags for $18, can be purchased at the landfill scale house.
- Over six bags will be charged at a rate of $55 per ton rate starting with a $20 minimum

Leaf & Limb Fees
- Commercial: $25.50 per ton with a $5 minimum
- Residential: $25.50 per ton with a $5 minimum

Other Disposal or Recycling Services:
- Animal Carcasses (Cat, Deer, Dog): $20 minimum (Larger carcasses, call first)
- Car batteries: $1 per battery
- Mattresses & Box springs: $10 per item
- Metal: Free (This includes old appliances, microwaves, treadmills, etc.)
- Paint: $2.00 per can or $10.00 per 5 gallon bucket
- Propane tanks: $5 per tank
- Tires: $3 per standard passenger / light truck tire, $10 per commercial truck tire
- Tires cannot be on the rim. If a tire is on the rim the fee is $10.00 per tire.
Prohibited Items
Certain items are banned from landfills. Contact the Athens-Clarke County Landfill for a complete list of all prohibited items at (706) 613-3508.
Regulations
- All garbage must be covered by a tarp and secured. Transporting unsecured loads is illegal! OCGA 40-6-254 states that no person shall operate any motor vehicle with a load on or in such vehicle unless the load is adequately secured to prevent the dropping or shifting of the load onto the roadway. Any person who operates a vehicle in violation of this code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
Additional Information
- The Athens-Clarke County Landfill does not accept Construction and Demolition (C&D) material. That material should be taken to the Walton County C&D Landfill.
- The landfill has a gas capture system that helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- The landfill offers a variety of educational programs for schools and groups.
- The landfill has a compost facility that turns yard waste into compost that can be used to improve soil health.
