The City of Negaunee offers two convenient options for residents to dispose of their unwanted items: the Compost Dump and the Refuse Drop-Off Site. Both facilities have specific hours of operation, so it’s important to plan your visit accordingly.

Compost Dump Hours

The Compost Dump is located on County Road 480 across from the Wastewater Treatment Plant. It is open:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

The Compost Dump is closed for the winter season when the snow is on the ground to stay and will reopen once the road thaws and firms up again in the spring.

The Compost Dump accepts the following items:

  • Grass clippings
  • Sod
  • Garden debris
  • Brush and tree limbs up to 6 inches in diameter

Please note that there is a 2″ maximum on the diameter of limbs.

Refuse Drop-Off Site Hours

The Refuse Drop-Off Site is located off of County Road 480. It is open:

  • Second Thursday of the month from 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Last Saturday of the month from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • First Saturday of the month from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (May – October only)

The Refuse Drop-Off Site accepts the following items:

  • Chairs
  • Mattresses
  • Sofas
  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Toilets
  • Sinks
  • Rugs
  • Carpets
  • Glass
  • Television sets
  • Stereos
  • Radios
  • Lamps
  • Clothing

Please note that the following items are not accepted at the Refuse Drop-Off Site:

  • Building materials
  • Appliances that contain Freon
  • Hazardous materials

Additional Information

Both the Compost Dump and the Refuse Drop-Off Site are for the use of Negaunee residents only. Residents must present their City of Negaunee utility bill showing payment of a City garbage collection fee and a driver’s license confirming their City of Negaunee residence.

A limit of one (1) pick-up load per customer will be strictly enforced at the Refuse Drop-Off Site.
