East Grinstead Recycling Centre Hours

The East Grinstead Recycling Centre is open during the following hours:

  • Summer hours (April 1 – September 30):
    • Monday: 9:00am to 6:00pm
    • Tuesday: Closed
    • Wednesday: Closed
    • Thursday: 9:00am to 6:00pm
    • Friday: 9:00am to 6:00pm
    • Saturday: 9:00am to 6:00pm
    • Sunday: 9:00am to 6:00pm
  • Autumn/Winter hours (October 1 – March 31):
    • Monday: 9:00am to 4:00pm
    • Tuesday: Closed
    • Wednesday: Closed
    • Thursday: 9:00am to 4:00pm
    • Friday: 9:00am to 4:00pm
    • Saturday: 9:00am to 4:00pm
    • Sunday: 9:00am to 4:00pm

What You Can Recycle at the East Grinstead Recycling Centre

The East Grinstead Recycling Centre accepts a wide variety of recyclable materials, including:

  • Paper and cardboard
  • Plastic bottles and containers
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Metal cans and foil
  • Batteries
  • Light bulbs
  • Electronic waste
  • Garden waste
  • Scrap metal
  • Wood
  • Construction and demolition waste (up to 200kg per visit)

Proof of Residency

To use the East Grinstead Recycling Centre, you must provide proof of residency in West Sussex. Acceptable forms of proof of residency include:

  • Current driving licence (photo card or paper licence)
  • Council Tax bill from the current financial year
  • Utility bill (gas, electric or water) less than a year old
  • TV licence less than a year old
  • Letter from HMRC or the Home Office less than a year old
  • Current bus pass
  • Current disabled parking permit (Blue Badge)

Vehicle Restrictions

The following vehicles are not permitted to use the East Grinstead Recycling Centre:

  • Multi-axle trailers
  • Horseboxes
  • Tipper trucks
  • Flatbed or dropside trucks
  • Luton-type vans

All vehicles over 2.2 metres high must use the Burgess Hill RC, Chichester RC, or Worthing RC.

Vehicles have a gross vehicle weight restriction of 3.5 tonnes at all centres.

Commercial Vehicles

You will need to obtain a permit to use the centre if you drive a commercial vehicle to dispose of your household waste. You can apply for a permit online at https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/land-waste-and-housing/waste-and-recycling/business-and-commercial-waste/commercial-waste-permits/.

Businesses still need to use the waste transfer stations and pay to dispose of their business waste.

Charges

There is a charge for disposing of tyres at the East Grinstead Recycling Centre:

  • £6.00 per tyre or part tyre

Tyres from commercial vehicles, such as large goods vehicles, will not be accepted.

Payment can only be made by Visa or Mastercard debit and credit cards. Cash and cheques cannot be accepted. Payment will need to be made before you are given access to the chargeable containers.
