Elgin Mills Garbage Dump Hours
The Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre is open to the public during the following hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday: Closed
- Wednesday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Thursday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Friday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Sunday: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Accepted Items
The Elgin Mills garbage dump accepts a wide range of waste materials, including:
- Blue box recyclables
- Clean clothing and textiles
- Cooking oil (limits may apply)
- Electronic waste (max. 50kg per household per day; disassembled electronics will not be accepted)
- Household hazardous waste (Residential customers only; limits apply)
- Metal appliances
- Refrigerated appliances (with CFC removal sticker)
- Scrap metal
- Shredded paper
- Tires (limit of ten per day)
Fees
For mixed loads of chargeable and free materials, the following fees apply:
- Loads 100 kilograms (220 pounds) or less: $10 flat fee
- Loads over 100 kilograms (220 pounds): $170 per tonne ($0.17/kilogram)
Additional fees may apply for specific items, such as:
- Refrigerated appliances (without CFC removal sticker): $20 per unit
- Refrigerated appliance – small business (with CFC removal sticker): $10 per unit
Items Not Accepted
Please note that the Elgin Mills garbage dump does not accept the following items:
- Green bin organic waste
- Hazardous waste from industrial, commercial, or institutional sources
- Material containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), ammunition, explosives, radioactive waste, asbestos
- Sod, soil, and clean fill
- Yard waste
Tips for Visiting the Elgin Mills Garbage Dump
- Proof of residency is required.
- Cash, Debit, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa are accepted.
- To avoid fees, consider separating garbage from recyclables when packing your vehicle.
- You can circle the site twice, unloading your chargeable items first, then the free recyclables on your second pass.
