Gainesville Transfer Station Hours of Operation
The Gainesville Transfer Station is open to the public during the following hours:
- Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM (April 6, 2024 – November 10, 2024)
- Sunday: Closed
Please note: Any persons inside the Transfer Station after 4:00 PM (weekdays) or after 11:00 AM (Saturdays) will be charged “after hours” fees of $50.00 + tax for each period of 15 minutes. This fee is assessed for ALL types of debris/refuse.
Accepted Items at the Gainesville Transfer Station
The Gainesville Transfer Station accepts a wide range of items, including:
- Household trash
- Construction and demolition debris
- Yard waste
- Recyclables (paper, cardboard, plastic, metal)
- Scrap metal
- Tires (no larger than 20 inches and no tractor tires or tires with rims)
Items NOT Accepted at the Gainesville Transfer Station
The following items are NOT accepted at the Gainesville Transfer Station:
- Hazardous waste or special waste from health care related facilities
- Septic tank pumping-grease & grit trap waste
- Slaughterhouse waste – dead animals
- Pesticide, insecticide, herbicide, fungicide, rodenticid containers
- Discarded materials containing asbestos
- Lead acid storage batteries
- Any internal combustion engine
- Tires larger than 16 inches (tractor tires/semi truck tires/ semi trailer tires)
- Any free liquids not passing the paint filter test
- Any ash from burning procedure incinerator ash
- Any bulk or containerized liquid waste
- Used oil & oil filters or soil contaminated by petroleum products (including hydraulic hoses), crude oils or chemicals

Fees at the Gainesville Transfer Station
The Gainesville Transfer Station charges fees for the disposal of certain items. The current rates are as follows:
- Minimum charge for loads under 640 lbs: $20.05 (includes tax)
- Tonnage: $61.54 (includes tax)
- Tires: $12.02 (includes tax)
- No Tarp Fee: $33.72 plus tax =$36.50
Rates are subject to change annually
CASH, CHECKS, AND CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED AS PAYMENT.
Other Important Information
- All loads in an open truck bed or open trailer MUST BE TARPED/COVERED. If a load is not TARPED/COVERED, A NO TARP FEE WILL BE CHARGED IN THE AMOUNT OF $36.50 (includes tax) Section 16-9 of Ordinance Number 1238-02-2010.
- The City of Gainesville is the exclusive provider of residential waste and commercial waste, rubbish, and refuse collection and disposal service for all residential premises and commercial premises and establishments within the city limits.
