Nassau County Dump Hours
As a homeowner in Nassau County, it’s important to be aware of the proper procedures for discarding garbage and other waste materials. To ensure the cleanliness and safety of our community, it’s crucial to follow the established dump hours and regulations.
Dump Hours
The Homeowner Disposal Area, located at 1600 Merrick Road in Merrick, is open to residents of unincorporated areas (except residents of Sanitation District 1) of the town. It is not available to residents of incorporated villages (except Hempstead and Freeport Villages).
The hours of operation are as follows:
- Monday through Friday: 9 am to 3 pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 8 am to 3:30 pm
Accepted Materials
The Homeowner Disposal Area accepts a wide range of waste materials, including:
- Appliances
- Batteries
- Electronics
- Furniture
- Tires
- Construction and demolition debris
- Yard waste
- Recyclables (plastics, cans, glass, cardboard, paper)
Unaccepted Materials
Certain materials are not accepted at the Homeowner Disposal Area, including:
- Medical or hazardous waste
- Propane tanks larger than 20 pounds
- Stone material (more than two 32-gallon cans per trip)
- Automobile parts (except vehicle frame parts, crankcases, transmissions, engines)
- Waste oil (more than five gallons per visit)
- Lithium-ion batteries
Proof of Residency
All residents must provide proof of residency when visiting the Homeowner Disposal Area. Acceptable forms of proof include a driver’s license or a tax bill.
Vehicle Restrictions
- Vehicles towing trailers of any size will be required to pay commercial disposal rates.
- Pickup trucks must have a cap or be stacked no higher than the height and depth of the truck bed.
- Vans must have a backseat installed, a side door with windows, and no top racks or interior doors separating the driver area from the cargo area.

- Each vehicle is limited to one trip per day to the Homeowner Disposal Area.
