Transfer Station Hours of Operation
The Vernon Transfer Station is open to the public on the following days and times:
- Wednesday & Saturday: 8 AM – 4 PM
- Sunday: 12 Noon – 4 PM
Permit and Punchcard Requirements
To use the Transfer Station, residents must obtain an annual permit and punchcard. Permits are available for purchase at the Tax Office located at 8 Park Place in Vernon. The cost of an annual permit is $5.00.
Punchcards can be purchased at the Tax Office or at the Transfer Station. The cost of a 10-entry punchcard is $60.00.
Acceptable Items for Disposal
The following items are accepted for disposal at the Transfer Station:
- Brush (any size branch, no stumps)
- Oversized bulky items (sleep sofas, recliners, building materials)
- Metals (grills, bikes, swing sets, lawn mowers, propane tanks, miscellaneous scrap)
- Appliances (freon units, stoves, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, fans, etc.)
- Waste motor oil & antifreeze (put oil and antifreeze into clean plastic containers with screw-on caps. Label containers. Do not mix oil and antifreeze.)
- Tires (unmounted or mounted)
- Mattresses/boxsprings (additional punch required)
- Freon units (additional punches required)
Please Note: Metal items that are at least 75% metal are now accepted free of charge. Freon units, however, are not included in this category.
Unacceptable Items
The following items are not accepted for disposal at the Transfer Station:
- Hazardous waste
- Grass, leaves, or stumps
- Commercial vehicles, contractors, or businesses
- Vehicles with dump bodies
Items Not Requiring a Permit or Punchcard
The following items do not require a permit or punchcard for disposal at the Transfer Station:
- Excess refuse & recycling
- Metal (excluding freon units)
- Electronics recycling
- Yard waste (two bundles of brush and one trash bag filled with weeds, tree trimmings, pine cones, pine needles, etc.)
- Single burnable item drop-off dates (4 times per year)
- Waste motor oil & antifreeze (5-gallon max per visit)
- Lead acid batteries
- Mulch (seasonal)
- Paper (shredded or unshredded)
- Books/DVDs/VHS tapes & cassettes
- Fluorescent lightbulbs
