The County of Vermilion River provides several waste transfer sites for residents to dispose of their waste responsibly. These sites offer convenient hours and accept a wide range of waste materials, including household waste, recyclables, and hazardous waste.

Acceptable Waste Materials:

  • Household waste
  • Cardboard
  • Wood and wood products
  • Clean burnables and yard waste
  • Rolled wire
  • E-waste (not accepted at Tulliby Lake and Preston sites)
  • Metal
  • Mattresses and upholstered furniture
  • Small propane bottles
  • Large propane bottles (collected in cages/pallets)
  • Appliances
  • Batteries (ask supervisor)
  • Agricultural chemical containers (empty, triple rinsed, cap removed, and bagged)
  • Tires
  • Oil, oil filters, and drained oil filters
  • Empty paint cans and used paint (up to 23 L cans)

Unacceptable Waste Materials:

  • Animal carcasses
  • Asphalt shingles (accepted only at Vermilion Transfer Site)
  • Liquid wastes
  • Toxic wastes
  • Cement/concrete
  • Car bodies
  • Plasterboard/gyprock (accepted only at Vermilion Transfer Site)

Special Provisions:

  • Recycling: Corrugated cardboard, boxboard, tin cans, newspapers, magazines, books, and other paper are accepted.
  • Large items: Must be cut into pieces no larger than 2 feet x 4 feet.
  • Hazardous waste: Small household-sized containers of glue, cleaners, insecticides, rechargeable batteries, etc., are considered hazardous waste.
  • Fees: There is no charge for any of the above products to ratepayers within the region. Contractors within the region must use the Vermilion Transfer Site for their waste and are charged $90/mT. A tipping fee will apply to users who are not residents of the County of Vermilion River or the Town of Vermilion.

Satellite Transfer Site:

  • Address: 5502-59 Avenue, Lloydminster (adjacent to the E360s recycling yard)
  • Hours: Saturdays from 10:00am – 2:00pm
  • All County of Vermilion River residents may use this site for household waste only. Proof of residence is required.

Hamlet Pickup Services:

  • Collection of Residential Waste Schedule:
    • Wednesdays: Blackfoot (approx. 12:00pm noon), Kitscoty (approx. 7:00am)
    • Thursdays: Islay (approx. 1:30pm), Marwayne (approx. 10:00am), Dewberry (approx. 9:00am), Clandonald (approx. 12:00pm noon)
