The Keauhou Recycling & Transfer Station is open daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Accepted Materials
The following materials are accepted at the Keauhou Recycling & Transfer Station:
- Household refuse
- Residential do-it-yourself construction and demolition material
- Soft compactable bulky items (mattresses, stuffed chairs, and couches)
- Residential self-hauled greenwaste
Prohibited Materials
The following materials are prohibited at the Keauhou Recycling & Transfer Station:
- Commercially hauled rubbish, garbage, swill, or refuse
- Prohibited materials as defined by the State Department of Health
- Refuse generated by a business, farm, Federal or State agency, religious entity, or nonprofit organization
- Automobiles or automobile fluids
- Whole tires
- Hard bulky items, such as hide-a-beds with metal frames
- Residential do-it-yourself construction and demolition debris (C&D) loads exceeding 3 cubic yards
- Asbestos or canec building material waste
- Propane, oxygen, or acetylene tanks or compressed gas cylinders
- Explosives, hazardous or radioactive wastes including fluorescent light bulbs, lead-acid or lithium batteries, and e-waste
- Landscape contractors or commercial haulers of residential greenwaste materials
Load Restrictions
- Maximum one (1) residential load per day.
- Maximum three (3) cubic yards of trash per load.
- Maximum five (5) cubic yards of greenwaste per load.
Fees
The Keauhou Recycling & Transfer Station does not charge a fee for household waste disposal. However, commercial disposal of waste at the East Hawai’i Reload Facility (Sort Station) in Hilo and the West Hawai’i Sanitary Landfill (WHSL) in Pu’uanahulu requires a permit and is subject to tip fees.
