The Muskegon County Landfill operates on the following schedule:

Monday – Friday: 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Please note that the landfill is closed on Sundays.

  • Closing Time Enforcement: The landfill closes promptly at the posted times. Customers who fail to leave the premises by the closing time may be subject to an after-hours fee of $55.00 per 15-minute period.
  • Load Refusal: The scale operator may refuse any load if there is insufficient time to unload it before the landfill closes.
  • After-Hours Fee: Customers who are not off the premises within 30 minutes after the posted closing time will be asked to return at a later date and may be subject to the after-hours fee.

  • Accepted Waste: The Muskegon County Landfill accepts municipal solid waste, demolition debris, and other materials. However, hazardous waste is not accepted.
  • Residential Transfer Station: The landfill has a residential transfer station accessible to any vehicle or truck and trailer for residents to dispose of unwanted goods.
  • Residential Customers with 4WD Vehicles: Residential customers with working 4-wheel drive vehicles and hydraulic dump trailers (no tilt trailers) are permitted to enter the landfill and dump within the active landfill cell with required personal protective equipment.
  • Accepted Waste Origins: The landfill accepts waste from Muskegon County, Ottawa County, Oceana County, Newaygo County, and Lake County. All other waste origins are prohibited.
