Princeville Dump Hours

The Princeville dump, officially known as the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station, is open daily from 7:15 am to 3:15 pm.

Note: The dump is closed on all state holidays.

Accepted Materials

The Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station accepts a wide range of materials, including:

  • Green waste (lawn trimmings, yard waste, tree trimmings, shrubbery, Christmas trees)
  • Tires
  • Motor oil
  • Scrap metal
  • Appliances
  • Motor oil filters
  • Propane tanks
  • Residential recycling bins
  • Bulky items (mattresses, furniture)

Fees

Commercial vehicles with plates are required to purchase Tipping Fee Coupons to dispose of waste at the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station. Coupons can be purchased at the Treasury Department desk in the Department of Motor Vehicles building at the Civic Center.

The rates are as follows:

  • $6 for a commercial passenger vehicle
  • $10 for a pickup truck or small trailer 1/2 ton and under
  • $20 for a full-sized pickup truck or large trailer up to 3/4 ton

Prohibited Materials

The following materials are not accepted at the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station:

  • Ashes
  • Bulky items and construction and demolition debris greater than three (3) feet in any dimension
  • Used motor vehicle and heavy equipment tires, whether whole, cut, sliced, chipped, or shredded (except for whole automobile and passenger truck tires from residential self-haulers for recycling)
  • White goods (except for white goods from residential self-haulers for recycling)
  • Animal carcasses, parts, or innards; animal feces not considered pet animal waste, liquid waste; medical waste that has not been rendered non-infectious through sterilization
  • Explosives
  • Toxic and hazardous wastes
  • Pressurized containers (except for propane cylinders of ten (10) gallon capacity or less from residential self-haulers for recycling)
  • Corrugated cardboard from businesses, industrial, governmental, institutional, and other nonresidential sources that exceeds ten percent (10%) of the load, by volume
  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metal items from businesses, industrial, governmental, institutional, and other nonresidential sources that exceed ten percent (10%) of the load, by volume
  • Monitors (cathode ray tubes and liquid crystal displays) from businesses, industrial, governmental, institutional, and other nonresidential sources

Green Waste Recycling

In addition to regular waste disposal, the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station also offers green waste recycling. Green waste is shredded into a mulch product that can be used as a ground cover or as a carbon base for composting.

Note: Fees apply for commercial drop-off of green waste.
