Avery County Transfer Station / Landfill Hours

The Avery County Transfer Station / Landfill is located at 2175 Brushy Creek Rd, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. It is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. The landfill is closed on Sundays and major holidays.

Material Recovery Site Hours

There are seven (7) Material Recovery Sites (MRS) in Avery County:

  • Elk Park Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Sugar Mountain Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Altamont Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Linville Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Plumtree Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Beech Mountain Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • Three Mile Material Recovery Site: Open 5 days a week, closed Wed. and Sun. 6:30 am – 6:30 pm, Sat hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Accepted Materials

The Avery County Transfer Station / Landfill accepts a variety of waste materials, including:

  • Household trash
  • Scrap tires
  • Scrap metal
  • Automotive batteries
  • Junked cars

The Material Recovery Sites accept the following recyclable materials:

  • Plastic bottles and jugs (marked with a 1 or 2)
