Acceptable Materials

The Chatham County drop-off centers accept a wide range of materials, including:

  • Cardboard
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Office paper
  • Scrap metal
  • Cans (cleaned soup or food)
  • Plastics 1 & 2 (clear bottles, milk jugs, detergent bottles)
  • Used cooking oil
  • Used motor oil

Non-Acceptable Materials

Please note that the drop-off centers do not accept the following materials:

  • Household garbage
  • Rubber tires of all types
  • All liquids
  • Closed containers
  • Hazardous materials
  • Construction debris from full house demolitions or major renovation projects
  • Boats, docks
  • Items containing flammable or ignitable material
  • Paint that hasn’t dried out
  • Land clearing, tree stumps
  • Dead animals

Paint Disposal

If you need to dispose of paint, you can follow these steps:

  1. Fill the paint can with kitty litter, stir it in, and let it sit to dry.
  2. Place the can into your household trash can for disposal.
  3. Leave the lids off for inspection by waste hauler staff.

Alternatively, you can take unopened cans of paint to The Restore on Victory or find a painter who is willing to take the paint.

Chatham Paint Center

The Chatham Paint Center offers a paid paint recycling service. Here are the fees based on container size:
