McKay Bay Scalehouse Hours of Operation

The McKay Bay Scalehouse is open to the public during the following hours:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:00 AM – Noon
  • Wednesday, Saturday: 8:00 AM – Noon
  • Sunday: Closed

What Can I Dispose of at the McKay Bay Scalehouse?

The McKay Bay Scalehouse accepts a wide range of waste materials, including:

  • Appliances (2 per visit)
  • Barbecue Grills (propane tank must be emptied with cap/valve removed)
  • Furniture & Mattresses
  • Yard Waste (must be loose and free of plastic, in yard waste paper bags, or bundled using jute twine)

Important Note: Tires will not be collected until the end of Summer 2024.

Fees for Disposal

For residential customers with active solid waste accounts within the City of Tampa collection area, the following items can be disposed of at no additional charge:

  • Appliances (2 per visit)
  • Barbecue Grills (propane tank must be emptied with cap/valve removed)
  • Furniture & Mattresses
  • Yard Waste (must be loose and free of plastic, in yard waste paper bags, or bundled using jute twine)

For all other items, including commercial waste, larger quantities, and construction debris, fees will apply. Payment is accepted by credit card only.

Prohibited Items

Please note that the following items are prohibited from disposal at the McKay Bay Scalehouse:

  • Hazardous, radioactive, biological or infectious waste
  • Liquid Waste
  • Fuel Oil
  • Gasoline or Flammable Waste
  • Propane Tanks (unless cap/valve is removed)
  • Wet paint or drywall mud
  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Explosives
  • Electronics (items can be taken to Hillsborough County Solid Waste at no additional charge)

Proof of Residency

To qualify for no-charge disposal, residential customers must provide proof of residency. Acceptable forms of proof include:

  • Driver’s license or government-issued ID
  • An Active Solid Waste Residential Account with the City of Tampa for the provision of Solid Waste Services. The account address must be within the City of Tampa Collection area.

Additional Information

  • Personal protection equipment (PPE) is REQUIRED to be disposed of on the tipping floor. PPE can be purchased at the Scalehouse if needed.
