Brush and Leaf Pick-Ups

Brush and leaf pickups will take place on the following Mondays in 2023:

  • May 8
  • September 11
  • October 16
  • November 13

Brush and leaves must be curbside and next to the driveway at 7 a.m. on these designated Mondays.

Leaves and yard waste must be in paper compostable yard waste bags or 32-gallon or smaller containers that can be emptied into the collection truck. PLASTIC BAGS OF ANY KIND ARE NOT ALLOWED AND WILL NOT BE PICKED UP, which includes no “compostable green” or biodegradable plastic bags.

Brush is limited to ONE pile no larger than 4’ x 4’ x 5’ per household with branches less than 6” in diameter and a pile weight less than 50 lbs. Brush must be piled or bundled (bundled piles are preferred).

Christmas Tree Pick-Up

Christmas tree pickup by the Franklin Department of Public Works will be 7 a.m. on January 8, 2024. Trees should be placed at the end of the driveway no more than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup and should be free of decorations, lights, and tree stands. Trees should not be covered with snow or be placed in a bag. (Wreaths are to be disposed of with the regular garbage.)

Sharps (Needles, Syringes, Lancets)

Wisconsin Law requires that sharps be properly discarded. The City of Franklin Health Department is a sharps collection site for residents only. Biohazard containers may be purchased from the Health Department. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call 425-9101 for further information. Sharps may not be placed in household trash.

Special Pick-Up

Automated Garbage and Recycling Pick-Up

Garbage (brown cart) and recycling (green cart) are picked up weekly, both on your scheduled garbage collection day.

Cart Placement:

  • The arrows on the lid of the carts must point to the street.
  • Handles and wheels should face away from the street.
  • The garbage cart should be placed within 2 feet of the street on one side of the driveway and the recycle cart should be placed within 2 feet of the street on the other side of the driveway.
  • Please keep 6 feet of clearance between the carts and other objects, especially mailboxes and vehicles.
  • Carts should not be placed in the street.

As is current practice, when a holiday falls on a weekday, pickup of garbage and recycling will be delayed by 1 day for the remainder of that week.
