North Main Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center
The North Main Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center is one of six such facilities operated by the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department. It is located at 9003 N Main, Houston, TX 77022.
Hours of Operation
Effective March 12, 2023, the North Main Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center is open Tuesday to Sunday (closed on city-approved holidays) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It is recommended that citizens arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time to allow adequate time to unload.
Accepted Materials
The North Main Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center accepts the following materials:
- Recyclables:
- Ad inserts
- Aerosol cans
- Aluminum cans
- Cardboard
- Cartons (shelf stable and refrigerated)
- Catalogs
- Glass bottles and jars
- Magazines
- Mattresses
- Newspapers
- Plastics #1-#5 and #7 (toys, packing materials, flower pots, styrofoam, or plastic furniture are not accepted)
- Steel cans
- Telephone books
- Tin cans
- TreeWaste/Junk Waste:
- Furniture
- Tree limbs and branches
- Stoves
- Refrigerators
- Other:
- Up to five (5) automobile tires (rims not accepted) per visit, limit of ten (10) total per month.
Proof of Residency Requirements
To use the North Main Neighborhood Depository/Recycling Center, you must provide proof of residency. Acceptable forms of proof of residency include:
- Photo Identification: A current state of Texas-issued identification card, such as a Texas Driver’s license, Texas Department of Public Safety-issued ID card, or Texas License to Carry Permit.
- Utility Bill: A utility bill (power, water, or gas) from the current month or previous two (2) months. The address on the utility bill must match the address on the state-issued identification. Electronic bills are accepted.
- Lease Agreement: If no utility bill is available, you may bring a copy of your current lease or rental agreement for a City of Houston address. The address on the lease or rental agreement must match the address on the state-issued identification.
- Property Tax Bill: For residential property owners whose primary residence is outside the state of Texas, who do not have a Texas ID, a current property tax bill must be shown; the names on the photo identification and tax bill must match.
- Student ID: For out-of-state students at Houston universities, a current student ID may be used in place of a utility bill.
Additional Information
- Neighborhood depositories will not accept household garbage, more than five (5) tires per month, per household, and large quantities of building materials.
- Trash from commercial haulers or brought in a commercial vehicle (business or rented commercial) will not be accepted.
