Inclement Weather
Please note that the Facility may be closed due to bad weather, so please call ahead at 781-274-8300. The facility is closed on legal holidays.
Accepted Materials
The Lexington Composting Facility accepts a wide variety of materials, including:
- Yard waste (leaves, grass clippings, dead flowers or plants, wood chips, hedge clippings, pine needles, brush 4 inches or less in diameter)
- Cardboard
- Mercury-containing products (thermometers, thermostats, fluorescent bulbs, compact fluorescent bulbs, button cell batteries, nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries, switches containing mercury, manometers)
- Scrap metal (antennas, bed frames, bikes, charcoal grills, curtain rods, fans, gas grills (propane tank must be removed), gutters, ladders, pipes, pots and pans, railings, screen doors, shelves, signs, sinks, swing sets, toasters, wheelbarrows)
- Car batteries
- Propane tanks
- Textiles (clothes, shoes, linens, and other textiles)
- Bicycles
- Books, CDs, DVDs, and video games
- Worn-out U.S. flags
