Department of Solid Waste Management
Ocean County, New Jersey, offers two convenient recycling centers for residents and taxpayers to dispose of recyclables and other waste items. These centers, known as the Northern Recycling Center and the Southern Recycling Center, have specific operating hours and guidelines that residents should be aware of.

Operating Hours
Both the Northern and Southern Recycling Centers are open to the public during the following hours:
- Monday – Saturday: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Sundays and Holidays: Closed
Accepted Materials
The recycling centers accept a wide range of recyclable materials, including:
- Cardboard
- Paper
- Bottles
- Cans
- Plastics (marked with the recycling symbol)
In addition to recyclables, the centers also accept the following special waste items:
- Electronics
- Paint
- Waste oil
- Light bulbs
- Batteries
Fees
There are no fees for residents to drop off recyclables or special waste items at either recycling center. However, commercial businesses may be charged a fee for certain types of waste disposal.

In addition to accepting recyclables and special waste, the Northern Recycling Center also offers the following services:
- Free mulch and compost
- Recyclable materials processing facility
- Recycling education center
- Tours
The Southern Recycling Center offers the following additional services:
- Clothing/textile donation bins
- Brush and leaves disposal
- Free compost and mulch
Guidelines for Use
When using the recycling centers, residents are asked to follow these guidelines:
- Separate recyclables into designated containers.
- Do not place recyclables in plastic bags.
- Rinse out food and beverage containers before recycling.
- Remove labels from plastic bottles and jars.
- Break down cardboard boxes to save space.
- Place special waste items in designated containers.
- Do not bring hazardous waste to the recycling centers.
