How to Dispose of Materials
When you arrive at the transfer station, you will be directed to the appropriate disposal area for your materials. Please be sure to follow the instructions of the attendant on duty.
Common household garbage: This should be placed in the main bin at the transfer station.
Recyclables: Glass, cans, plastics, paper, and corrugated cardboard should be placed in the designated recycling containers.
Batteries: All batteries should be placed in the barrels in front of the recycle table.
Construction debris: This should be placed in the dumpster near the opening of the transfer station.
Tires: Over the road car and truck tires less than 24 inches may be put in the trailer at the transfer station. They should be removed from the rim. NO OFF ROAD TIRES ARE ACCEPTED.
Bulk metal: This should be placed outside on the right of the building.
Freon-containing items: These must be placed in the back of the parking lot. All doors must be removed.
Electronics: These should be placed outside on the right of the building before the metals.
Fees
There is no fee to dispose of materials at the Stamford Transfer Station. However, there is a fee for disposing of large loads of construction debris (more than 55 gallons per day).
Additional Information
- The transfer station is open to residents of the Towns of Harpersfield, Kortright, Stamford, and the Villages of Stamford and Hobart.
- A permit is required to use the facility. Permits can be obtained from your town clerk.
- All materials must be disposed of in the proper containers.
- The transfer station is closed on holidays.
