Taos Regional Landfill Hours
The Taos Regional Landfill is located at 24670 US Highway 64 in Taos, NM. It is operated by the Town of Taos and managed by the Taos Regional Landfill Board. The landfill is open to the public Monday through Saturday.
- Monday-Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The landfill is closed on Sundays and the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Taos County Transfer Stations Hours
In addition to the Taos Regional Landfill, there are also eight Taos County Transfer Stations located throughout the county. These transfer stations are smaller than the landfill and are typically open fewer hours per week.
The hours of operation for each transfer station are as follows:
- Arroyo Hondo Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Cerro Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Chamisal Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Costilla Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Los Cordovas Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Ojo Caliente Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Pilar Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Tres Piedras Site: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Rates
The rates for using the Taos Regional Landfill and the Taos County Transfer Stations vary depending on the type of waste being disposed of.
Residential Rates
- Minimum charge: $5.25 (includes up to 220 lbs. of waste)
- Additional 20 lbs.: $0.40
Commercial Rates
- $41.08 per ton
Tires
- Passenger vehicle: $2.00
- Large truck: $5.00
- Heavy equipment: $9.00
- 10 or more tires: $120 per ton
Landfill Member Organizations
- $45.00 per ton
Non-members
- $49.50 per ton
Accepted Materials
The Taos Regional Landfill and the Taos County Transfer Stations accept a wide variety of materials, including:
- Municipal solid waste
- Construction and demolition waste
- Green waste
- Scrap tires
- Scrap metal
- Sludge
Materials that are not accepted include:
- Hazardous waste
- Medical waste
- Radioactive waste
- Explosives
- Ammunition
- Propane tanks
- Paint
- Batteries
Additional Information
- All loads (including trailers) larger than a standard pickup truck must be on the scale before 3:30 p.m.
- The landfill will close on days when sustained wind speed reaches 25 mph.
- No person shall transport any solid waste or recyclable material in any vehicle without covering, tarping, or adequately securing the load in order to prevent littering and/or road hazards.
