Drop-Off Site Locations and Hours

The City of Madison operates three drop-off sites:

  • East Drop-Off Site: 4602 Sycamore Ave.
  • West Drop-Off Site: 402 South Point Rd.
  • Central Drop-Off Site: 121 E. Olin Ave.

Fees for Certain Items

Some items require a fee to be disposed of at the drop-off sites. These items include:

  • Appliances
  • Electronics
  • Excess recycling
  • Excess trash
  • Household batteries
  • Large items
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Lumber & other wood waste
  • Styrofoam for recycling

You can pay the fee online, by phone, or in person at the Streets Division offices.

Accepted Materials

The drop-off sites accept a wide variety of materials, including:

  • Yard waste
  • Food scraps (at East and West sites only)
  • Brush
  • Batteries (AA, AAA, etc.)
  • Lead acid batteries
  • Cooking oil
  • Recyclables (cardboard, etc.)
  • Building material (see restrictions)
  • Large items
  • Appliances
  • Electronics
  • Scrap metal
  • Styrofoam
  • Excess trash
  • Mixed rigid plastics (not recycled)
  • Clothing (at East site only)

Rules and Restrictions

  • Only City of Madison residents and property owners can use the drop-off sites.
  • You must provide proof of residency or property ownership.
  • Contractors are not allowed to use the drop-off sites.
  • The load limit is one pick-up or small trailer load of material per day.
  • No 55 or 30 gallon drums or barrels.
  • Propane tanks will be accepted if completely empty and brought to the site with all valves completely open.
  • No medical waste is accepted at the sites.

The drop-off sites will be closed on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving & the Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day
  • New Year’s Eve
