If you’re looking to dispose of waste in Hartford, CT, it’s important to be aware of the city’s dump hours. The Hartford Transfer Station is located at 1000 Capitol Avenue and is open to the public Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. The Transfer Station is also open the first and third Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Note that the Transfer Station is closed on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Fees for using the Transfer Station:

  • $10 per car
  • $25 per pickup truck
  • $50 per commercial vehicle

Acceptable materials:

  • Building/demolition debris (with a copy of a building permit)
  • Swimming pools, decks, sheds, doghouses, wood or metal fences
  • Appliances
  • Brush (no stumps)
  • Tires (passenger vehicle size)
  • Car batteries
  • Residential size tractors and lawn mowers, snowblowers (with oil and fuel removed)
  • Furniture
  • Rugs
  • Recyclables
  • Bicycles
  • Large toys
  • Gas grills (no propane tank)
  • Miscellaneous metal items
  • Yard Waste (leaves, grass, and twigs) contained only in compostable Kraft paper bags.
  • Used motor oil
  • Single stream recyclables, including corrugated cardboard
  • Electronics (including TVs, monitors, computers, cell phones, and printers)
  • Mattresses and box springs (no futon mattresses)
  • Textiles (clothing, shoes, household linens, bags, belts, stuffed animals) contained in plastic bags
  • Paint Care approved paint products

Materials that are not accepted at the Transfer Station:

  • Hazardous wastes, including batteries
  • Concrete and masonry materials
  • Soil
  • Stumps
  • Propane tanks
