Kitimat Landfill Hours of Operation

The Kitimat Landfill is located at 6.5 km from Kitimat, on the west side of Highway 37. The hours of operation vary depending on the season:

  • Winter (October 1 to March 31): Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed Mondays)

  • Summer (April 1 to September 30): Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (closed Mondays)

Statutory Holidays:

The landfill is open during regular hours on statutory holidays, except for the following days:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Easter Sunday
  • July 1
  • Christmas Day

Accepted Materials at the Kitimat Landfill

The Kitimat Landfill accepts a wide range of materials, including:

  • Residential garbage
  • Scrap metal and large household appliances
  • Clean wood waste
  • Yard waste and clean chipped wood
  • Empty compressed gas cylinders
  • Lead-acid batteries

Note: Corrugated cardboard is prohibited at the landfill site. Please take all corrugated cardboard to the KUTE recycling depot or place it at the curb on your next curbside collection day.

Tipping Fees at the Kitimat Landfill

Tipping fees are charged for all loads brought to the landfill. The fees are based on the type and weight of the material.

Residential Garbage:

  • Up to 100 kg: $5 per trip
  • Over 100 kg: $75 per tonne, plus minimum charge

Commercial and Industrial Waste:

Please refer to the Terrace Area Waste Management Facility Regulation Amendment Bylaw No. 774, 2022 for detailed tipping fees.

Other Important Information

  • All loads are weighed at the landfill.
  • Residential construction waste is accepted, but a minimum charge applies.
  • The landfill is only accessible to residents of the District of Kitimat and Kitamaat Village.
