As a homeowner or business owner, you may occasionally need to dispose of hazardous household waste (HHW) or bulky items that cannot be placed in your regular trash bin. The Lake Elsinore Permanent HHW Facility provides a convenient and environmentally safe way to dispose of these materials.
Lake Elsinore Dump Hours
The Lake Elsinore Permanent HHW Facility is open to the public during the following hours:
- October – May: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- June – September: 7:00 AM to Noon
The facility is closed on the following holidays:
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
What is HHW?
HHW refers to household products that contain hazardous materials, such as:
- Automotive chemicals (e.g., antifreeze, brake fluid)
- Batteries (e.g., car batteries, button batteries)
- Electronics (e.g., computers, TVs, cell phones)
- Fluorescent tubes and bulbs
- Household cleaners (e.g., bleach, ammonia)
- Household pesticides
- Paint (including stains, varnish, adhesives)
- Pool chemicals
- Sharps (e.g., needles, syringes)
- Used motor oil
What is Accepted at the Lake Elsinore Dump?
The Lake Elsinore Permanent HHW Facility accepts a wide range of HHW items, including:
- Used oil and filters
- Latex/oil-based paint
- Fluorescent tubes/bulbs
- Pesticides
- Cleaners
- BBQ & camp size propane
- Aerosol cans
- Antifreeze
- Auto/household batteries
- Garden chemicals
- Pool chlorine
- TVs and computers
- Electronic waste
- Sharps
- Unused medication (except controlled substances)
What is Not Accepted at the Lake Elsinore Dump?
The Lake Elsinore Permanent HHW Facility does not accept the following items:
- Government, business, real estate, non-profit, or out-of-county hazardous waste
- Explosives or ammunition
- Controlled substances
- Infectious waste (except sharps)
- Asbestos
- Radioactive material (except smoke detectors)
- Remediation material
- Containers larger than 5 gallons or weighing more than 50 pounds
- Cylinders greater than 40 pounds
- Appliances
- Tires
- Trash
How to Dispose of HHW
To dispose of HHW at the Lake Elsinore Permanent HHW Facility, simply drive up to the drop-off area and follow the instructions provided by the staff. You will be asked to provide proof of residency in Riverside County.
Additional Services
In addition to HHW disposal, the Lake Elsinore Permanent HHW Facility also offers the following services:
- Drop & Shop: You can donate reusable household items, such as furniture, clothing, and toys, at the facility.
- Safe Sharps & Medication Disposal: You can safely dispose of sharps and unused medication (except controlled substances) at the facility.
