Middletown Recycling Center is located on the corner of Johnson Street and North Main Street. The center accepts recyclables and bulk waste from Middletown residents and businesses. Regular household trash is not accepted.

Hours of Operation

  • April to June/September to November
    • Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
    • Saturday: 7 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
  • December to March/July to August
    • Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
    • Saturday (1st and 3rd of every month): 7 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Fees

There is a fee for dumping certain materials at the Middletown Recycling Center. The fees are as follows:

  • Construction and demolition debris: $100 per ton
  • Yard waste: $25 per cubic yard
  • Metal: $25 per ton
  • Tires: $10 per tire

What is Accepted

The Middletown Recycling Center accepts the following materials:

  • Recyclables:
    • Paper products (newspapers, magazines, cardboard, etc.)
    • Plastic bottles and jugs
    • Metal cans and lids
    • Glass bottles and jars
  • Bulk waste:
    • Furniture
    • Appliances
    • Mattresses
    • Electronics

What is Not Accepted

The Middletown Recycling Center does not accept the following materials:

  • Regular household trash
  • Hazardous waste
  • Medical waste
  • Biodegradable waste

Additional Information

  • Middletown residents must have a sticker to use the recycling center. Stickers can be obtained at the Department of Public Works in City Hall (Room 210), Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or by filling out this online form.
  • Businesses that transport waste material must register with the City and obtain a license to use the Recycling Center.
  • The Middletown Recycling Center does not accept materials such as asphalt, concrete, or clean fill. This material is accepted at Butler Construction, Portland CT, 860-342-3880.
  • Starting April 1, 2023, the Middletown Recycling Center will only accept two tons of materials per load from Middletown properties. Loads larger than two tons can be brought to a private facility such as CWPM or CCRR – HQ Dumpsters.
