Oconee County Recycling/Waste Centers
Oconee County operates five Recycling/Waste Centers conveniently located throughout the county. These centers accept a wide range of recyclable materials and household waste.
Locations:
- Greensboro Highway (SR15) – 2001 Greensboro Highway at Green Ferry Road
- Jimmy Daniell Road – Jimmy Daniell Road near SR316
- Hog Mountain Road (SR53) – Hog Mountain Road at Carrithers School Road
- Rankin Road – Across from Oconee County Middle School just off Mars Hill Road
- Hwy 441 – one mile south of Farmington on US441 (Macon Hwy)
Hours:
- Hwy 441 Recycling/Waste Center: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- All other Recycling/Waste Centers: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- All sites are closed on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, as well as on Oconee County Government holidays.
Proof of Residency
To use the Recycling/Waste Centers, you must be a resident of Oconee County. You will be required to show proof of residency upon entry. Acceptable forms of proof include your vehicle registration or driver’s license. If you are new to the county, you can show a utility bill in your name.
Recyclable Items
The following items are accepted for recycling free of charge at the Recycling/Waste Centers:
- Cardboard/Paper (no shredded paper)
- Household plastics #1-7 (remove handles; no commercial buckets or drums; no plastic bags or plastic film/wrapping)
- Aluminum and metal food cans
- Glass
All items must be free of residue, and lids should be left attached.
Other Fees
In addition to the free recycling services, the Recycling/Waste Centers also offer the following services for a fee:
- Pay-As-You-Throw Bags: These bags are available for purchase at the centers or at area grocery and convenience stores. They can be used to dispose of household garbage.
- Tipping Fee – Leaf & Limb: $35 per ton with a $12 minimum
- Tipping Fee – Household Solid Waste: $65 per ton with a $12 minimum
- Tires without rim: $7 each
- Tires with rim: $10 each
- Bulky Items (mattresses, box springs, furniture, other large items): $25 each
Waste Reduction Guidelines
Oconee County encourages residents to reduce waste by following these guidelines:
- Recycle all recyclable materials.
- Compost organic waste.
- Avoid using disposable products.
- Buy products with less packaging.
- Repair or reuse items whenever possible.
Additional Information
- Commercial or business use of the Recycling/Waste Centers is not allowed.
- All materials that cannot be recycled or reused have a disposal fee based on weight.
- The Hwy 441 Recycling/Waste Center accepts scrap tires for a fee; passenger vehicles only.
- Motor oil can be recycled at the Hwy 441 Recycling/Waste Center and Rankin Road Recycling/Waste Center; cooking oil is accepted for recycling at all sites.
- As a reminder, the State of Georgia prohibits littering and burning household garbage. Loads must also be secured in vehicles while traveling.
